Erwinna Weekend House

  • A row of columnar Hornbeams leads into the entry courtyard. A wooden fence–sometimes slatted, sometimes woven—provides privacy for rooms facing the driveway and creates a garden in back. Large planes of concrete jut into the driveway to direct attention to the inset front door. Cross over a frog pond to the firefly terrace overlooking the woods and follow the path through a fern garden to the dining terrace, located opposite the kitchen. A stormwater runnel crosses the terraces and becomes part of the walkway to the fire pit where there is a sky above full of stars. The pool deck is a single plane of concrete. Openings in the slatted pool fence provide forest views. A private garden for the owners is tucked away at the back corner of the house.
